On things that matter
Most parents can relate to refrigerators covered in artwork—held up by magnets, slightly askew, but kept there because it matters. It’s something made by one of our own.
Over time, those pieces get moved. We make space, things shift, rooms become a little more refined. Not everything can stay out.
But some things should.
Keeping a few pieces on a shelf or wall lets them stay with you, even as time moves on. They become part of the home in a quieter way.
My son, Will, got deeply into pottery in high school. I couldn’t keep everything, but I kept a few pieces. They remind me of him, and of something simple—that creativity belongs to everyone.
