About quiet house
quiet house was founded by Katy Goodell, whose approach to interiors is grounded in warmth, atmosphere, and thoughtful refinement.
quiet house grew from a long-standing love of creating spaces that feel warm, personal, and quietly beautiful.
More than thirty years ago, while furnishing our first home on a limited budget, I began searching flea markets, secondhand shops, and antique stores for pieces that felt just right. That early habit of collecting and layering objects still shapes the way I approach interiors today — spaces that evolve over time rather than come together all at once.
While raising our three children, I continued studying design, refining our homes, and developing an eye for atmosphere, composition, texture, and the way a space can shape how we feel in daily life. Eventually, I designed our home in San Clemente, California, and over the years continued learning through hands-on experience and an ongoing interest in the relationship between wellbeing and our physical environments.
Before moving further into interiors, I also worked in health and wellness coaching, where I became deeply aware of how much our surroundings influence our routines, energy, attention, and sense of calm. That perspective continues to inform the way I work today.
I’m drawn to meaningful pieces, natural materials, collected objects, soft light, vintage art, and homes that feel layered, grounded, and lived in rather than overly designed.
quiet house exists to help people bring warmth, balance, and cohesion to homes that already have good bones but need a thoughtful final layer — through editing, styling, sourcing, and careful attention to atmosphere.
I believe our homes should be places where we can exhale.
